I truly believe that in this utterly wretched era of late capitalism one of the best things you can do is buy used shit whenever possible. Search around for salvage shops, second-hand places and electronic recycling near you. Here in Seattle we have Second Use which has everything from fucking scrap wood to cabinets, and RePC which is an entire warehouse of weird electronics shit. If you live in or around a major metro area there's probably something similar. My last 3 laptops have all been from eBay. My stovetop is a used commercial-grade induction cooktop I got for $500. New it would have been $2500. Same with like 80% of the electronics that I own. If you have to participate in a market economy do it in the way that would most annoy someone who owns a lithium mine.
