Chip purist: a “chip shop” sells fish and chips, prepared in the traditional mannerYour local fish-and-chip restaurant is a chippyA fish-and-chip food truck is a chippy
Chip radical: a “chip shop” sells anything that could reasonably be called “chips”A gardening store selling woodchips is a chippysparkfun.com is a chippy

Radical+Radical related tangent: there is an IC manufacturing company called Potato1 that makes 7400 logic2 that switch3 in the gigahertz4 and I think that's mental and I love them. Also I hope electronics nerds on Cohost start unironically calling Digikey the chippy because that's fucking funny

  1. Get it? Potato chips?

  2. Basic building blocks like and/or/not gates and other simple digital logic components

  3. How quickly the outputs can change between on and off

  4. An order of magnitude faster than Fairchild, Toshiba, etc
