you can say "chimoora" instead of "cow of tailed snake" if you want. its a good pun.

I have a terminal case of bovine pungiform encephalopathy, the bovine puns are cowmpulsory

they/them/moo where "moo" stands in for "you" or where it's funny, like "how are moo today, Lupi?" or "dancing with mooself"

happy wednesday! we’re still working on tipping and other big stuff, but we managed to get a few nice changes out this week alongside those.

  • we finally got a chance to overhaul the alt text interface in the post composer to be easier to use
    • death to the small, sometimes invisible text box. now is the time of Dialog Box With An Expanding Text Field.
    • redesigning the alt text interface has been on our list since very shortly after the original alt text interface went live, 14 months ago
    • we did some restructuring in the post composer for audio posts that made it easier to address this
  • the drafts view is now paginated
    • you can finally revisit your 21st-most-recent post that you decided wasn’t good enough to post. it’s probably had enough time to marinate.

  • you can no longer silence drafts
    • previously, this would send them to the shadow realm, never to return
    • although i guess this was a good way to clear them out before pagination. much to think about.
  • fixed a bug where the emoji picker could hang off the screen on small devices
  • some behind the scenes work
    • tech debt to update to a newer version of node and remove some old infrastructure that we hadn’t used in almost a year
    • a big chunk of operations work we’d been putting off

that’s all for this week! more big work in progress but we’re trying to work in smaller things so the site doesn’t get stale. thanks for using cohost! :eggbug:

in reply to @staff's post:

genuinely im super happy about this. I used drafts as bookmarks to save other people's posts for monthsss before realizing they weren't paginated and the old things were just inaccessible. I'm glad they're there now :)))

i hate to be the https://xkcd.com/1172/ guy but is there another way to send a post to the shadow realm?

i have implemented all possible paths for a tic-tac-toe game in one giant chost that can play with a zero percent loose rate, but rendering it takes a solid 6 seconds because its one big boi. so i used exactly this to yoink it off my drafts. now theyre stinky again :(

The alt text definitely an improvement from a text entry standpoint! I would suggest as a next improvement to increase the size of the thumbnail so that it's possible for folks to transcribe anything that may be in the image without having to remember it.

god i love pagination, put it straight into my veins

im still mad the modern internet has moved away from it, its a huge boon for my anemic internet speed to be able to just jump around pages

I appreciate that I can now see the text description as I type it, but I don't love that it obstructs the full size image and shows a comically small preview of it instead (this is on desktop, I haven't tried it on mobile). When I'm adding alt text, I'm usually looking at the image to describe it, or copying text that appears in the image, which is now extremely difficult or impossible. For me, this UX is one step forward, two steps back.
