i lived in oshkosh in the 90s (when bgosh was still manufacturing overalls there, before they moved production overseas) and again in the late 00s/early 10s and the difference in character the city went through when there were two types of jobs a person could have vs when there was only one was palpably sad and immediately noticable.
county/assembly district went from mixed/tossup to hard red/pro-war real fast.
Winnebago County’s a swing district, at least presidentially. The reason the state government representation is ruby red these days is ‘cuz the gerrymandering that the GOP put into place in 2012 is so extreme that Wisconsin can barely be counted as having a democratic government anymore. Here’s to hoping the state Supreme Court rules the maps unconstitutional given there’s a progressive majority on it since last year.
