Badly enough to keep us too desperate and exhausted to fight back.
The scary thing is: this works. I think that things will have to get a lot worse and more unstable before the system gets weak enough to be fundamentally changed, because it appears to me that its ability to direct violence and control the narrative is still as strong as (if not stronger than) ever.
