Capitalism Roulette aka "The Stock Market" isn't real, it's what bored rich financebros play in between comped lunches and golf.
Unfortunately for us, they managed to get ruling class buy-in ages ago, because what a fun1 game!
The stock market is war. Just ask Edmund Burke. It's a proxy for war that doesn't get the aristocrats killed, getting killed is for peasants and brown people. The stock market was then and is still fueled by colonial war and slavery. The scam and scheme about who gets to be on top of the heap and own the profits of empire is contorted into this unrecognizable obfuscated form specifically to avoid the moral repugnance of the extractive warfare coming to light.
Burke, like modern conservatives, didn't consider it a real war that counted if it wasn't threatening white people in Europe and the monarchies thereof.
The stock market is ritual magic of the most evil sort, the kind which dominates the bodies and hearts of people. There is no meaningful separation between human and spiritual powers - this magic is the power to direct the conditions of life and death for millions or billions of people. It is fueled by death and misery, in a very literal sense.
When Lord Fahrquaad dropped this punchline in '01, sure, we all laughed, but even back then it was more "chillingly accurate" than "buffoonishly hilarious" to me.
