Old camera problems.
The Press Universal showed up, finally. Came pretty quick from Japan after a weekend delay. It's exactly as gangly and weighty and unwieldy as it looks. Weird little brick of a camera.
It's in pretty good shape, too. Some signs of wear - the hinge on the film door is weak, so you have to make sure its lined up. There's side to side play on the back adapter, but its not bad. The light seals are a little crusty. Touch of fungus in the lens.
Oh, the lens. Doesn't work. It did for the first 45 minutes, but I don't know what happened, and now it won't extend. This is a collapsable lens, so you can do some bellows-back shenanigans on the other Presses. It won't extend out and lock, something's gotten wedged or something.
The helical grease is also toasted. It was stiff, but would free up, then stiffen up again. I made it worse, putting some alcohol in to try and... clean it, somehow, and it just stripped the grease off completely. Now it barely turns.
I dunno. I'm gonna take the lens to the shop and maybe eat the cost. There's supposedly a "bunch" of these 100mm f/3.5s out there but a "bunch" of them are coming from Japan, too. Bird in the hand etc. The shutter's good, sounds well timed, so that's the really critical part.
This'll hopefully be a fun, weird camera once I can use the lens.
