its fucked up that there's a lil tiny helicopter on mars and that its flown like, 60 flights out of an expected 5, and lasted 2 1/2 years out of an expected "couple weeks"

did you know they put a lil scrap of canvas from the original Wright Flyer on it so it could get first flight (undisputed) on Mars as well as first flight (disputed) on earth?

A couple weeks ago I happened to be at a talk by an ex-JPL-bigwig and he was all “yeah they didn’t even want to send the Marscopter to Mars, it was such a toy, nobody believed in it, and now it looks like the future of Mars exploration and it’s probably going to be an integral part of sample return”
