I have a terminal case of bovine pungiform encephalopathy, the bovine puns are cowmpulsory

they/them/moo where "moo" stands in for "you" or where it's funny, like "how are moo today, Lupi?" or "dancing with mooself"

what infuriates me the most about funko pops (other than the ridiculous community around them) is that funko as a company can make some really cool shit. i owned a bunch of non-pop cuphead stuff from them back in the day and it looks Good. it rules. but then their pops are just so ugly. and there's so many pieces of media that are never gonna get any other merch other than funko pops (read: little shop of horrors) and it makes me so sad

just to visualize what i'm talking about here: the funko vinyls are on model, with great care taken to make everything just right, while the funko pops are just... well. twilight look at least ok, kinda cute, one of the better pops i've seen, but cuphead looks just awful here

and imagine all the series that don't get a good-looking vinyl in addition to their pops, it makes me so sad. funko has the capability to make really good stuff but pops are profitable so they'll continue making them

funko pops r like a one-two hell punch 4 me cuz im so mad that the biggest example of smth ive wanted for years (accessible vinyl figures) is Ugly as fuck but to me they also represent like... nerd culture capitalist excess. i can think of like three stores off rip just in the mall i work at alone where whatever they originally used to sell has been downsized to shit but god forbid the walls upon walls of these shitty ass figures ever get less than a third of the store's entire retail space

Completely agreed, but also, the reason why it works is that having a standardized style collection makes it a lot easier for people to jump the gun. It's easier to buy a few things from different series when they all fall together into a single collection (funko). And Funkos exhude this aura of "just a little thing" that also makes it easier for casual people to buy when they wouldn't get a normal figure.

It sucks because they're really, really ugly.

(as a funny curiosity - some years ago a japanese figure company had a line called Beach Queen that worked in a similar way - it was a line of swimsuit figures. They were smaller than usual (1/10) and cheaper, and because of the connecting theme of swimsuits it was easy to collect characters from different series. And the same thing happened with it - a lot of minor, not popular characters started only getting figures in this line, in swimsuit, with no figure of their normal outfit. A different kind of despair lol)
