i am currently unemployed, my husband is supporting us both from his income but it's only enough for us to afford basic necessities, any extra/unexpected expenses put us further into debt which we already have a lot of, i've been looking for a job in my field for around two months now but i've only heard back from a single employer who then ghosted me, i must be doing something wrong

the question i need help with is: what kinds of jobs should i be looking for/applying to that would hire someone with my experience and background?

more info below

this is a lot of text but i don't wanna leave anything out

what i'm working with

i used to work in IT as a service technician, it was a small startup so i did everything from helpdesk to maintaining servers for big companies, with some graphics design on top when there wasn't enough of the other stuff to do; i did this for two years, my boss can vouch for me being good at what i did and when it comes to the graphics design stuff there are two professional websites currently online that i solo designed and one big one that i co-designed, plus photos of a big physical banner ad i made

i quit in january of 2022 to move in with my husband in the us and have not worked since then, it took the us govt until august of this year to process my work authorization

i don't have a degree or any of the certifications US employers seem to want employees to have, nor can i afford to get one; i also do not have a government security clearance and since i'm not even a permanent resident yet i cannot get one (a lot of jobs around here seem to require these for some reason)

i've been applying to entry level IT jobs for about two months now, usually things like desktop technician / helpdesk / service technician, all things i'm very familiar with and could do easily but i've only heard back from a single company who then ghosted me after two interviews

my resume is good, it was reviewed by friends and family in positions that deal with hiring people

i should also mention that i live in maryland and if it helps i'm trans and autistic with adhd

what i need help with

i need to figure out a way to make at least $30,000 a year

i'm autistic and working at all is absolute hell but there's things i can manage

ideally i'd want a job that:

  • is part time (4hr/day, weekdays in 9-5 range)
  • is remote or hybrid remote
  • is not sensory hell and does not require physical strength
  • would not require interaction with people outside of the company

i can settle for a job that:

  • is full time (weekdays 9-5)
  • is entirely in office
  • would not require much physical strenth
  • would require minimal interaction with people outside of the company

i cannot:

  • do manual labor
  • interact with people outside of the company a lot (customers, end users, etc.)
  • work outside of the 9-5 weekdays range

alternatively if such a job for someone like me does not exist please let me know that i'm screwed so i can consider other options

in reply to @peb's post:

You might have to get some other sort of in person office job (like data entry) and use that to stay afloat and get those certifications. And it'll give you more time to find a more permanent position.

A lot of employers ghost job applicants in the US. Even people they've interviewed, multiple times even. I've been there and it sucks a lot! Any job that is going to be remote is going to have a ton of competition, since lots of people want those jobs, anyone in the US can apply, and there's fewer of them to go around, now that all the big companies are really pushing for RTO.

Not sure how this interacts with visa/work authorization stuff, but I find a lot of part-time IT/technician jobs are not "jobs" but an independent contractor position. You might consider setting up a profile as consulting IT and putting out business cards on local library boards, etc., to see if you can catch the older, technically-disinclined small business owner demographic, who tend to have a decent amount of money for ill-defined Computer Stuff.

thanks for the recommendation! i'll keep it in mind for if nothing else works out but honestly i think that might be too involved for my autistic struggles-with-making-phone-calls ass ;w;
