getting into the gameboy mario land series is so wild, you can tell these devs were getting away with doing pretty much whatever. mario land 2 has a whole halloween themed area with japanese yokai and shit. there's a level where mario swims in slime dripping from the ceiling. mario land 1 is like, turtles explode now, fuck you. everything about this whips
