Aspens run roots out that basically pop up a new tree stem. They're known for growing in lines because of this.
This isn’t at all related to your main point but that Wikipedia article is badly in need of copyediting, wow. Commas and periods all over the place, occasional nonsense sentences… Don’t normally see that on an article on a topic that I’ve actually heard about.
