hello chosters, i've been avoiding this for as long as possible, but i need to avail myself of the kindness of all you people out there on the computer. my name is ben and i am 30 or 40 years old. i've been self-employed for the last year running my own window, gutter, and roof cleaning business, trying to become self sufficient to provide for my disabled partner and two autistic kids "outside the system" (because they are native and we live in so-called "canada" and the canadian government would love nothing more for my partner to off themselves and for my kids to be separated from each other.)
as the able-bodied member of family, i am the sole breadwinner and primary caregiver for my partner and kids. unfortunately, work for me dries up mid-November and usually does not pick up until april. even though i can scrounge a few small jobs here and there each month, i do not make nearly enough to survive. i cannot work retail (covid will kill my partner and it makes me fucken crazy) and all other jobs in our small town are nursing or construction. i have applied at a few places on the margins that do not require credentials but we are still in the red in the meantime.
i come to you hat in hand and can full of pennies jingling for help, we have an immediate need for december rent (300ish), then an overdue hydro bill after that (another 300), then food and other bills. i was hoping to get a large enough customer base during the spring and summer months that i could make enough to save for the winter but that didn't pan out as well as i hoped and our meagre savings are already gone.
