have you ever done plane photography, or are you mostly just focused on the rockety side of aerospace?
i tried at an airshow once or twice, but i've discovered that i'd rather put the cameras down for those than try and focus my attention on them through a lens
i do try to take the long lens out whenever i hear a Loud take off from the shuttle runway because sometimes it's a t-38 or a AN-124 or a C-5 or a C-17 or an F-104 or the Zero Gravity Corporation 727, most of which i have managed to get snaps of but not like, good ones. just "HAH I GOT YOU" snaps. also the guppy, but I DID actually plan that shot out when i got word she was inbound.
