i am gay and despise computers

my desktop has been hardwired for about a year, i ran ethernet along the base molding up to my router in the other room

ever since i installed windows 10 on this computer, it randomly decides it's not connected to the internet annymore. doing the windows troubleshooting does nothing, it just says

"Ethernet" does not have a valid IP configuration
The default gateway is not available

the computer has been powered on for a whole of like twenty minutes and it did this. i was watching a youtube video and it shat itself, and now I have to restart it and it'll do the same thing again in another twenty minutes.

what the fuck is wrong with windows 10

this is the rare time I want someone to actually help troubleshoot, most of the time I don't because troubleshooting makes me want to slam both my heads in a door

but be patient with moo i have very little tolerance for computerb ullshit

Well my guesses for issues are the router, the cable, or windows just being cursed, in that order. Try changing your dns to like cloudflare or something using this guide to start off

i'm pretty sure it's just windows being tremendously the sucks. it can't even see the router i'm pretty sure.

If it's an intermittent issue that only recently started, i suppose it could be more likely a software issue. Admittedly i dont know how to fix it if its an issue with windows, sorry >.< moo could try other stuff though; are you able to turn your router off and back on? It should be ok to just unplug the power, wait like half a minute, and then plug it back in
edit - nvm someone else suggested a router power cycle and moo mentioned that didnt help, so i'm out of advice, sorry :(

one thought that i’ve had issues with before was disabling the unconnected wifi adapter. hopefully that helps! another option is to ditch dhcp and statically configure your network config, here’s a decent guide: https://www.tp-link.com/us/support/faq/919/ and set the dns to 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4

i don't think i had a wifi adapter installed when i reinstalled windows, i've bene hardwired since before then. i will take note of this though

ahh, check for any other adapters (some vpns create them and don’t clean up) otherwise the static ip stuff is my only thought
