it feels like those left on twitter have been inured to the agonies bc, yall, it didn't stop getting worse. users just stopped giving a fuck lol. every slur is fair play now but saying "cis" will get you timed out for a week. the whole website is a trump propaganda machine. they opted all users into having their posts and writing fed to their AI. i would've expected like 3 or 4 mass exoduses since the last one, but everybody just kept on chuggin. another day another horror.

Unfortunately, a massive legacy user base of people that people want to interact with is a nearly unparalleled killer feature.

…like, I think Bluesky adding locked accounts would do a ton to get more furries off of Twitter, but fundamentally, Twitter still has probably 40× more non-chuds who might be worth interacting with using it than Bluesky, 80× more than the Fediverse (sans Threads), and 15,000× more than here. (Though also a ludicrously higher proportion of its users who are straight up fascists.)

Which, well, when you combine that with a sufficiently enormous block list and enough muted keywords, there's a lot of incentive to not ditch the site, even though by all means it should've gone under over a year ago.

The sooner they finally screw something up so massively that it makes the site unusable even for people with hundreds of thousands of blocks and 15 year old social networks on there, well,

it's a lot harder to skype yourself these days. hell, even contemporarily to skype, how many FA exoduses have their been, i remember being near the center of the 2015 one that saw the userbase so indignant that The FA Forums tried to secede from the website and yet it's still goin'.

Man that’s. Grim. Really dunno what to do, I know you mentioned seeing attention drop off on here for actual projects and my partner who does music has seen the same thing, but going back to twitter sounds so fuckin badddddd

it suuuuuuuper sucks!!! i didn't touch twitter for fully a year and now i'm using it again bc partnering with labels means boosting them on socials and i gotta do my best for everybody. but the whole experience on every level is just worse. videos play worse, the site works worse, the culture is worse, there are like 400 million more bots. but it has inescapable gravity because nobody will leave it, because it has gravity!! (and video upload i guess)

God, that’s a bummer. I know why artists use twitter, but their audiences? It feels like most people just prefer the optics of complaining about the ~hellsite~ while sublimating their quiet anxieties about the deconsolidation of the internet into flimsy moralizing to push people away from alternatives. Bad times!!!
