oh here's one more question to put out before i pull myself away from cohost for a while:
what's the most absolutely basic, approachable, no-frills, Just-An-RSS-Reader people recommend?

the first one i saw suggested wound up hitting me with 10 million tabs and shit like "use our AI features to curate your feed! get the latest financial news delivered straight to you!" and all this other shit that was just an instantaneous "no fucking chance am i using this." and there's the openrss list of readers but it's 2 dozen long and i would prefer not to have to try every single one to see if i don't hate it. so if anybody's got any super basic barebones easy-to-use readers they'd suggest, hit me

I use Feeder on Android, it's pretty basic and simple. If you only have a few feeds to check and you use Thunderbird then it's feed reader options are ok. It shows each new item like an email so it's better for if you only have a few feeds to follow.

The nice thing about RSS is if you don't like one reader you can export your OPML file and import it in another reader in about 5 seconds. All your subscriptions are in that nice little standardized file any compliant RSS reader (a good 95% of them at least) will load right up meaning you don't have to repeat that setup.

I'm a fan of RSS Guard which is Windows/Linux/Mac and it's very good at being a Just the Feeds reader, although it could be a bit slicker, so not sure if it's what you're looking for. I prefer the Lite version which strips out a more complicated HTML renderer for feed posts because if I want to see anything in detail I'll open it in the browser anyway.

Another second for Feeder on Android.
