@vforvalensa asked:

In Homestuck Made This World you guys would sometimes reference how, similar to Homestuck, Harry Potter also had a lot empty space built into it's text to allow for fan production. I have been fixated on this analysis of HP for months and keep thinking about it every time I engage in a piece of media, especially those produced between HP and HS. Would you have any recommendations for further reading about the harry potter-ian courting of fandom and how that shaped YA fiction and media at large?

sorry to say i don't really know of any work on HP that tackles this specifically; i know i've said in response to an ask before that, purely from observation, it seems neither Rowling nor her publishers really seemed to expect people to lock into things in the way they did and the internet fandom took them a bit by surprise. otherwise i think Hufflepuffs would have been given qualities aside from "those people in the background." certainly by the time of Pottermore or whatever they're working on that, though

the shrieking shack is a great hp reread podcast that talks a lot about how jkr engaged with and relied on her fandom. i'm not finished yet so not sure if they discuss its impact on other fiction, but i know they went on to discuss lots of other big ya stuff like twilight
