i knew it was coming but at some point Twitter finally killed Moments--it was wiped from the dashboard a good while ago, maybe even pre-Elon (?), and you had to go directly to the urls to access anything, but they were still there. now my Moments, while the pages themselves still exist, are totally blank and cannot be edited in any way. sad because it has obliterated my halloween folktale cycle and the most readable form of vaultjaunt

This is amazing because at a certain point (Michael knows this probably) there was a really lovely external tool named Storify that did the same thing Moments did but it was more practical and better organized. And then Twitter got worried that their platform had accidentally allowed for an exercise of creativity that might make money for someone other than themselves, so they cloned Storify's product exactly and changed the TOS so that Storify could no longer exist, and Storify simply went away. And now Twitter has shut down Moments. Steal a thing someone else made, then throw it away because you didn't actually want it. Microcosm of capitalism

i literally recreated all my old storify pages as moments after the shift and now i guess i'm just going to roll in the ashes of my second alexandria
i exported all my twitter accounts on 2022-10-28, and then exported the only one i was still using late last year, but didn't delete the earlier backup because i figured it had a ton of stuff that had been deleted by the time of the later backup.
theoretically if you have a backup of your account from the right period when moments was still kickin (and was included in the backup? i actually have no idea if it ever was) then you'd at least have an offline version of the data. but you probably just want to share the cool stuff you made online, so that'd require some work to recreate the pages from that data.
yeah my older downloads are.... somewhere and i mean to check on them once i remember where they got filed, but because my most recent archive (8/23) was handy i actually jumped in and checked to discover 1) there IS a moments tab in it, and 2) it is TOTALLY broken
