it's the monday before PAX, meaning PAX's hired PR team has emailed me asking if i want media access to PAX for some reason.

for the record i'm not going, i have other commitments this weekend, and i know the actual press works on pretty tight turnarounds for things like this but it is just very funny to imagine being the sort of person who would want or need media access to PAX but who would not like, think of asking for it or even possibly realize PAX was happening until the monday before when the PR team reached out to be like "have you heard about this thing called PAX???" which is in fact the framing of the email

That's wild. This means you're on some kind a list of theirs. The kind of list that gets pulled when they have extra media badges the week of the event. What's the criteria for that kind of list? How does one get on it? These are the mysteries.

about two years ago my public contact info got added to some sort of list that a lot of PR companies appear to use. this means about a third of the time i get stuff that's technically somewhat relevant to my interests and work but incredibly silly (like last-minute PAX media access, or a horror movie about evil weed) and then the other two-thirds is all bizarre nonsense (a cool guitar autographed by a rockstar is being auctioned for charity, or the star of a midlist 90s romantic comedy has put out a new line of whiskey)
