In the classic season one episode "The Crepes of Wrath", Bart is eventually saved from the French vineyard where he has been kept in servitude. This AU came about when I began to wonder what would have happened if no salvation was forthcoming and Bart disappeared forever into France's criminal underworld. Now a petty crook and contract killer in his thirties, he picks up what he thinks will be an easy job taking out a vacationing American business owner. But when the friendly mustachioed face of his target turns out to be one he recognizes, an entire world comes flooding back, and Bart's suddenly not sure if he can doodily-oodily-do it.
