i finally finished "Brandish" (the SNES version)!!! that's meat & fuckin potatoes dungeon crawling right there!!!!!! there's a sword in there called THE PLANET BLASTER and i think shit like that rocks. thanks for that one, falcom

if you can't handle the jarring camera situation in this game you're a little punk-ass (just kidding instead you should play the really good PSP version of the game and turn on the OG music bc it's a fun, crunchy game i think a lot of dungeon crawly gamers would enjoy).

I remember the first (and only) time I saw brandish. It was while driving down to Knoxville for the starmen.net con. (I think we had picked you up from queens, but I might have my cons mixed up since this was over 10 years ago...) Toby was with us, and we stayed at a friend of Toby's near Washington DC for the night.

In the morning, Toby's friend's dad had made us crepes and Toby had got the game up and running on the SNES. I remember watching this game with the jankiest camera I had ever seen & Toby was gushing over how it was the best game ever.

Congrats on beating it!

I'm glad you remember too because typing it out it sounds like a fever dream.

"Oh yeah I drove down to Tennessee with a bunch of people from the internet including the creator of Undertale. We stayed at a random person's house and her dad made us crepes while Toby played this bonkers looking SNES game. I swear this totally happened!"

I played the PC versions a while back and they are still really great. Ys Origin is also very very good. Takes place hundreds of years before Ys 1 and 2, so it stands alone just fine, but I would still at least play Ys 1 first before playing Origin cause the callbacks are legit real good and will hit harder.

Nice- I need to play Brandish ALOT! Have you ever checked out Dinosaur by falcom? It’s a first person dungeon crawler with sick music and super speedy gameplay (again there’s a psp remake which I think is getting a fan translation as we speak)

Does the analogue play psp games? That might be a good way to play. I’ve never played the psp game but it looks different to the pc88 version. Different in a good chunky, kings field-y sort of way :)
