I was originally going to talk about swatch internet time but instead I'll try to describe something that has lived in my head for easily a decade since I first heard it.
I recall an episode of the Giant Bombcast many years ago in which Brad Shoemaker described a how he and his (college?) roommates had a house rule governing the length of a shower - it could be no longer than the runtime of Outkast's B.O.B. (Bombs Over Baghdad), or approximately 4 and a half minutes. They would play the song while showering as a makeshift timer.
I can't remember any more details and a casual google reveals nothing useful, but ever since I heard that episode without fail I will think of this song whenever I am trying to take a particularly speedy shower.
So even though it may be apocryphal, there you have it, a new (better) unit of time: the B.O.B. (Bombs Over Baghdad/Brad On Bombcast) Shower, approximately 4.5 minutes.
i've been stricken with this same brain worm for over 10 years. this post is the only thing i've been able to find online for proof of it existing. cannot for the life of me find the episode, no clips or any references to it upon a google search. but i remember it like the day i first heard it. iirc he was living with five people in a dorm and they made a CD-R with just B.O.B. on it like 20 times so they could let it play on a boombox in or near the bathroom. the Bombs Over Baghdad Shower is something i do myself sometimes when i need to take a five minute shower, tho i just play it off my phone. it's become a running gag with me and my gf. as any particular morning when i'm running late i will either tell them or they will ask if "i'm going to take a bombs over baghdad shower." the full song length is actually 5:05 on the Stankonia CD, so it serves as a solid five minute unit of measurement.
