gonna start this off with a general internet disclaimer: rap beef isn't for only Black people to understand or engage with, also Black people can absolutely be disinterested in rap beef, your interests (or lack of interest in something) do not define your validity, nor do they alter your race.

anyway, I just saw someone describe cohost as a place that's "a step removed" from caring about the Kendrick vs. Drake beef "directly" and claims people here are "kinda sick of hearing about it" while also claiming not to know what's going on

like first of all they're wrong* so let's start there and second of all that was a lot of words for someone to say "me and my other racist friends in the super-white feed I curated don't like that people are talking about Black culture"

*if this racist can self-select based on their feed, so can I

This is NOT about whether you know or don't know what's going on, it's about how you CHOOSE to talk about it and what that says about you, the people you CHOOSE to have in your circle, and how they CHOOSE to react to things they don't understand

here's a tip: if the reason people caring about a thing is bad hinges solely on the fact that you don't like it and you think it's bad for society to care about something you just personally do not like - and there is no greater harm - you are just a self-centered asshole

(Since this is going around, this is from a comment on a post I saw; the post itself was engaging with the beef in a way I thought was fun and engaging, but I wasn't going to boost a post knowing that rancid self-centering bloviation was in the comments. Part of me regrets blocking the commenter before OP woke up, only because I kind of want to see how OP would deal with it so I could decide whether to block them too. But, I don't follow OP anyway so meh)

It's kinda funny because I heard of that beef only on cohost but it probably say more about my feeds on socials than said socials. Or my selection of social.

The thing I miss the most on twitter was, I once made a viral tweet abouy youngster canceling the apocalypse or some non-sense rooted in millenial apathy and gen x and z fighting for their future. I got a few hundred likes, one of the pfp caught my eye and I followed. It opened a window on "black twitter". It's not what I was used to see, coming from indy game and having a lot of computer thingy and queer stuff but it was refreshing.

Oof, that person sounds like they need to broaden their horizons.

I can kinda understand the feeling of seeing a discussion in a space that you don't feel like part of, and wanting to respond by distancing yourself from that space. I'm not sure why this reflex happens, nor am I defending it; I think it's something that's good to be aware of, to suppress it if it shows up.

In response to your tag: A white woman I know used to brag about how she was "very clean" because of how she would rinse her food ingredients with bleach. She also used to wonder out loud with zero self-awareness, why she and her family kept getting gastrointestinal "bugs". I have since learned (from the internet) that apparently she is not the only person who does this.
