i received on B196 a hint for a shortcut sometime thereafter; specifically "Nothing but a straight road, take the fall before your reflection." I could fuckin swear this meant B199, but no matter how i try nothing's working. any ideas?

This is a hint about a major mechanic. To do this, you need to be at a place where the brand of the lord is engraves, and have the stairs inside you. Then fall.
i'm only at about B140 at highest myself, but i DEFINITELY know this one - figured it out while i was experimenting. more specific than lizstar's answer. run through ROT13 to protect you in case you don't wanna be Jumpscared by the solution - decode it here.
