when queueing for yumeiro yuram matches, you get put into endless mode; after a while, it can get boring to just drill board states with no opponent. so I have designed the Blockout Challenge to occupy me.
GOAL: fill the entire board (part from the three starting pieces) with gray squares, while attaining the highest score possible.
Explanation: when you combine more than four pieces of the same color, the blocks turn gray and no score is added. instead of avoiding this, do it on purpose
Rules:

  1. no creating pieces. your score must never rise above zero.
  2. no isolated colored blocks. "if it's not gray, it can't stay"
  3. no Geela (whale lady). i think her mechanic, which skews the randomizer to blue pieces, is just too off.

you can do this with any number of colors in any number of groups, it'll all turn out the same. the strategy requires careful management of next pieces and avoiding piece dependency. if a red domino is all that will save a setup you made, you might have to discard a lot to get it!

my example is above, completed with Yuna, which feels like easy mode. the goal is to not just to do it of course, but do it while discarding as little as possible. my -12000 is real bad. is a perfect zero score run possible?? either way I want you to beat me! (and also queue to play yumeiro yuram, a physical copy of which can be purchased from playasia for like $40)

WHAT WILL BE YOUR HIGH SCORE FOR THE YUMEIRO YURAM BLOCKOUT CHALLENGE???
