I mean, inches are called thumbs in Czech and probably some other European languages. We just don't use them any more since we switched to metric aeons ago, but the obsolete word still exists.
Interesting! In Russian the closest finger-related term I can think of is "пядь", which is the distance between the outstretched thumb and pointer fingers. Inches were (and still are) called "дюйм", from Dutch "duim" (thumb).

I just thought it would be somewhat cursed if the foot theme in English was continued.
