I played portal two when I was little baby before I had ever heard the idiom "in hot water", so when I heard wheatley say "but I'm in PRETTY HOT WATER here" in the beginning I took it completely literally. because right when he says that you see a big bottomless pit, it's pretty much completey canonnized to my brain that "ohhh at the bottom of the death pits there's boiling hot water and that's why you die." it made sense to my little kid brain, right? because when you look down there's like a blue haze that I just assumed must be steam from the hot water, and since you've got the long fall boots so just falling down a big pit shouldn't kill you, there has to be something more! honestly I think kid me was right. I still believe in the hot water to this day
