new around these parts...

casual gamedev working on a cyber-fantasy visual novel called HON3YPOT 🍯

Listen, if I were good at introductions maybe I wouldn't be here looking for community or something, right? 😅🙇

Something about me: I'm a day-job-haver with too many hobbies, so I'm trying to cheat time by working on a visual novel. It's genre soup - a seduction/heist story in a cyber-fantasy setting - but for the most part I get to write and draw and program without feeling guilty about choosing one hobby or project over another. But I like doing other stuff, too, so my progress is slow; I don't churn out "content" fast enough (or well enough?) for any algorithm to care, and now we move into the social media rant portion of my intro...

Social media take: Can I just... chat with people? I wanna share my stuff, see your stuff, chat about our mutual stuff and maybe engage in some parallel play/art? In the ancient days of the bird website, it felt easy to find regular people with shared interests who were online at the same time - but now we're all pushed to be famous, and our posts are anachronous (or is it non-chronological?), filtered or otherwise obscured from people who might actually want to find them 🤷 I don't mean to sound ancient or to yearn for the past, but social media feels like cable TV, recently - controlled by major entities, filled to the brim with ads, alternating fear-mongering and comfort/laughs just to keep our attention. And I thought we were trying to do away with cable...

Why I'm here: With all the above said, I want to lean into smaller and more engaged groups who can support each other, trade information and generally hang out. I'd love to join a webring; I'd love to build a small Discord for like-minded creative-types to chat while we make stuff or play games (message me?); I'd love to engage here on cohost. And to that end...

What you'll catch me talking about: I like to play video games (recently: BG3) and TTRPGs (ongoing years long Genesys game). I am a filthy-casual sports-doer and I've recently retaken up climbing after years away. I have a toddler; I talk about parenting very rarely, but this is part of the reason I can't keep up with anything, so it deserves honorable mention. I day-job as an engineer; this is also a rare topic, but occasionally I need to nerd out about a train or turnout.

Most of all, I'll be blabbing about HON3YPOT: a mature cyber-fantasy visual novel-in-progress where you'll seduce your way to a successful heist – or not. This is my main passion project and the vessel for my creative energy. Artwork in the reply is my most recent finished thing; note that this was an unusually long one and my posts are much more likely to be sketches or quick digital art in a simpler style/lower quality!
