check out the Nokia 1100

  • sold over 250 million units, might still be the best-selling mobile phone of all time
  • built to be cheap, but tough: it has a grippy case and a dust-resistant keypad, both of which are easily user-replaceable
  • first phone with a built-in flashlight
  • monophonic ringtones (but you can make your own!)
  • "apps": alarm, calculator, stopwatch. Need anything else? bring a separate device. maybe a pda?
  • bored with nothing but this phone in your pocket? good news! it comes with two games: there's Snake 2 (it's Snake, you know Snake) and Space Impact+ (a shoot-em-up with platforming sequences)
  • lasts for like four days on a BL-5C battery (that you can still buy new ones of, just not from Nokia)

downsides:

  • it probably doesn't work everywhere anymore because it only does like, GSM?
