Ah, it's not a big deal, really. It's not like printers might handle sensitive data or anythi-... waaait a minute!
it has cloud printing and scanning. just in case you want to print something, on your printer next to you, over the internet, through hp's servers, and back to your printer, that it bears repeating is right fucking next to you.
also there's a subscription service where you pay monthly and then they ship and bill you a new toner cartridge automatically at a 'discount' when you're running low on toner.
i remember there being a kerfluffle about the subscription service when it was announced because it's called 'instant ink' and everyone thought it was on-cartridge ink dlc instead of 'we bill and ship you ink/toner when it gets low, so you have a cart when you run out'
I don't remember ever being away from home and thinking "I wish I could start a print job at home right now" who is this FOR
very rarely have I thought “oh I need to print that when I get back to the office” in such a specific way as to be able to use this to just do it now instead of waiting and possibly forgetting. And every time it has happened, I’ve forgotten that the printer can even do that
There’s an interesting variant on HP printers where they interface with email, emails sent to it get printed, and scans send emails from it. Except it’s not the same email address haha. The print one is on HP’s domain and the scan one is set up as kind of an SMTP spoofer IIRC? So it can look like it’s part of your organization. A little honest of HP. “Yes just email us your documents it’ll be fine”
its so you, a boomer exec at hp, can print out tax paperwork for your wife that you hate and dont ever actually talk to while away from home (having sex with your 3rd mistress on a vacation you booked with themwork trip)
the thing that pisses me off the most is that it seems to be a pretty good printer!
