Speaking of looking for work, I'm sure this isn't a unique observation, but trying to find freelance work feels so weird right now. I'm sure the main thing is that there are less jobs available in general, but the ruining of twitter has hurt me a lot too, I think. At one point I had close to 5000 followers there, which isn't a ton, but it's a hell of a lot more reach than I've ever had anywhere else. I used to get work through there regularly, and I definitely can't say the same for any other social media sites.

I'm also trying to get more involved with more local stuff, but unfortunately I am super introverted and also don't have unlimited time or money, so I can't just go to every meetup. It's hard to know which ones I should go to, honestly. And of course that's the type of thing that won't tend to get you jobs right away, it's more about becoming part of a community, which may eventually lead to work. This is fine and great! I want to be involved in film, game, and music communities! But it doesn't really help with the "I need to pay bills now" problem.

I do think things will get better eventually! And I continue to get most of my work through referrals, so at least that part hasn't changed. But yeah, solidarity to everyone else who is going through it right now, it's not fun.
