I find it weird people are acting like biden lost that debate when trump basically sat there talking dead air filler like he was Trump-GPT, or have we decided that now debates are won automatically by whoever is the loudest
I couldn’t detect much less substance in what he said than what he’s ever said. you could absolutely get an LLM to spit out his particular brand of bloviating nastiness but like… that’s not really new, and it’s sure not gonna sink him on its own.
where Biden’s camp fucked up, IMO, was prepping him to recite an avalanche of Facts like it was a normal debate against a normal human being who wasn’t weirdly, disastrously good at twisting conversations to dodge questions and make other people look bad. I think a little less “well, but you see, it’s actually” and a little more “look at this felonious clown” would have done a world of good.
my two glimmers of hope are
- the statistics I’ve seen cited saying that debates don’t really decide elections
- the fact that a bunch of people in purple states, like my parents, are working their asses off to get voters registered, and a couple of the voter-suppression laws have gotten struck down in the last few years
that debate did not help. but we’re not doomed yet.
