"'s" also kind of implies ownership in a way that i don't think の does? but i mean, i'm hardly an expert, i started learning japanese like 9-10 months ago

well, it's katakana... and idk why exactly, but honestly my experience is that Japanese names just sort of tend to be written in some specific way that doesn't necessarily make any sense, and the best you can do is replicate what someone tells you it is. kanji also tend to use strange readings in names, that you don't encounter in other contexts, for example.

in this case i just went with how it's written in the poster for the show that's on myanimelist. i think that's the same logo as it is in the intro to the show itself

oh also just in case it wasn't clear 「涼宮ハルヒの憂鬱」 is just the name of an anime series and "the melancholy of haruhi suzumiya" is the official english name lol. so i didn't just translate it myself
