If you want to use it to make art posts or simple interactives I wholeheartedly recommend learning Inkscape, you get an extremely powerful art tool and THREE languages including CSS you can use to make your SVGs funky. (To be clear you still need a second tool or a text editor to add the animations, but you can lay out your bits and pieces graphically and then do just the animations in another tool.) I THINK you can use full CSS features inside an SVG file on Cohost rather than just inlines because they're self-contained (but I don't know for sure because I'm just now learning SMIL myself)
