the people who made palworld released a game in 2022 that was based around AI art. the CEO of pocket pair, Takuro Mizobe, also founded Coincheck, a cryptocurrency wallet and exchange service. it also got hacked in 2018, resulting in a loss of over 500 million US dollars

I missed these little nuggets of info during the development of this game, does explain why these fakemon were just uncanny enough to be sus, they were puked out by a LLM. That the CEO of Pocketpair is all in on crypto answers far more than it needs to. Releasing a game called "AI: Art Impostor" is merely telling us who they are, we should have listened.

It's sad to see that ...well from everything I have seen it's been a hit, and it speaks to the desperate need for innovation in the critter collector genre that people burned out on pokemon will latch onto anything different without interrogating the foundation the game sits upon.

Even that makes it sounds like it's the fault of not-shitty devs for failing to step up, or of players for failing to have that level of social awareness. I dunno how to word this thought better, though.
