its really hard to talk about drukqs without getting really sentimental. maybe im biased towards albums with a scrapbooking approach to their format (guided by voices albums, sad sappy sucker, godweensatan), but drukqs was always the album that i never could fully confront in his entire discography, only getting snippets at a time when it came time. i think i worry that ill only get more attached to it in the way i am for SAW II being one of my favorite albums.

for all of his album being "about" these small spaces inbetween and under and hidden in corners, underneath beds or behind curtains, this one focuses on it to an obsessive level. its intimacy always sorta scared me, even after learning that a lot of people's hate on it for its "unfinished" quality has only made me love what i heard more.

i get why he "retired" after putting it out, (learning it was to fulfill a contract and because of an ipod being stolen and worrying about leaks), which explains how much of it feels the way it does. at the same time, it feels like such a new era for his sound that it feels like he hasnt capitalized on. i dont think hed want to anyway, these are doodles to a sketchbook we likely wouldnt get access to in a different context. im glad we do.
