Gonna speak in 4e-esque terms to keep things as spoiler free as possible so like.
at most

you'll get spoiled that you fight something with above average HP.
lets go.

Enemy comp: 3 Summoner/Debuffer, 2 Brutes.
Summoner: Peeps who can summon a 2-Hit Dingus.
Brute: Above average HP, Hits Hard, slow.

Location Geometry: Donut.
Ring, central pillar blocks sight.

Initial Placement
Summoners on one side, Brutes on the other.

One Summoner was 1 Step, one Step being the amount of distance moved in 1 turn, away, the others were 2 Steps away.

Enemy Tactics
Summoners could debuff the party by way of an accuracy swing, the debuff made it easier to get hit, and harder to hit.
Hitting things is only one form of damage, so there's ways around one of the parts of the debuff, but not others.

The Summoners had like, 3~ Hits worth of HP. Beefy enough that they'd need focusing.
Summoning took their turn.

The Summons were 2~Hit dingus. one good hit would kill them.
The summons had one trick up their sleeve: They explode on death for 1 hit's worth of damage. They explode, on death, so not killing them and finding ways to disable them without death was an option.

The Brutes were simple: High HP, High defense [Defense is evasion in this, as well as % DR. Took half damage from a common damage type. Translated to flat DR, like maybe they have 2 Armor vs Phys]

The Brutes also were 3 Steps away from the party.
In this game, you could forgo other actions to move +1 Step.

Analysis

The Summoners at the start allowed first to introduce the concept and their deal. They will summon shit. They WILL overwhelm if not taken care of. They didn't summon every turn, because part of their wincon is to Summon > Debuff > Gang up.

The Brutes were a looming threat. If they were to hit you with the Debuff, it's over. So, rush to take out the summons.

Once the fight became only the Brutes, their threat waned. They were simply outnumbered, and despite their superior stats, got Lanchester'd via focus fire.

thoughts

gonna do this as a cooldown thing and to keep myself sharp game design wise.

i think there should be more tiny analysis things like this out there
see something cool, break it down for others who don't have your eyes, grant them eyes, and improve yours.
and thus.

this fight was neat, love the technicality of "they explode! on death

def gonna steal that for a Valiant Horizon thing
