thinking about how in the New Project, the mechanic for "Oh god we are about to FUCKING die regular combat rules have ended, choose what to sacrifice" type scramble scenes and social scenes will have the same mechanic.

High Command [gm, hereafter HC] will describe the situation.

Players may ask clarifying questions, then decide individually how they want to act.

When risk is involved, HC will clarify the situation.

  • Every impeding fact HC will bring up will add a -2 to the roll, up to -4.
  • Every fact you can bring up that'll help you gives you a +1 to the roll, up to +2.
  • Players can bring up hitherto unknown facts about themselves, once per scene, to grant a +4.

Sum the facts, then Players Roll.

8-: Failure to achieve the intended result with some mild twist or consequence, or success with an immense twist or consequence.
9-12: Success with a minor twist/consequence.
13+: Success without consequence.

Afterwards, any unknown fact brought up will will require an explanation scene.

Could be another Tidegirl questioning, could be a solo scene, could be a flashback.
Same rules to those scenes as above.

Players can choose to veto having to perform an explanation, and that could be its own scene, or not.
Players can do this twice, non-consecutively.

Yeah, that works. Advantage/Disadvantage cap at 3 by default too, at least in base mechanics - I think the only thing you'd have to specify in that regard is that players can only get 2 before adding unknowns.
