Scenario: You are a shard of a navy Hivemind, an Admiral, and your research vessel has new Project. This is your purpose.

Rewards: New Mounts, Aux, classes, and world information.

The Research Scene

Procedure:

  1. High Command describes the Project's containment.
  2. Players take turns, performing and describing a single Research Action to try and fill the Gnosis clock.
  3. After every player has gone, another Research scene cannot be attempted until after a Scramble, Social, or Sortie scene.
  4. If Gnosis is not achieved, Oblivion increments by Escalation, then Escalation increments.
  5. If Oblivion fills, go along a Project's Scramble track.
  6. If Gnosis is achieved, reset Escalation, go to the next Detail, and begin again.

Project is the current subject of research.
A Project is made of Details.

Details are made of 2 values, Gnosis and Research.

Gnosis is knowledge. When it fills, a breakthrough happens. Players receive the current Detail, then either begin work on the next Detail, or receive the rewards of the Project.
Oblivion is risk. When it fills, advance along an object's Scramble track, using Scramble rules.

Both are filled by their respective Progress.

Actions

All Research Actions call for a roll.

Before performing a Research Action, an Admiral can describe how their Occupation gives them the training and tools to perform exceptionally in this scenario, or how their Personality lead them to a certain conclusion from an experiment.

Doing so will grant Advantage 1 to Total.

Observe, Research, Establish
1 Use per Detail.
Learn the Clock Values.

  • 7: Instantly complete Detail.
  • 11+: Gain Low Die Gnosis Progress.

Careful Experiment
Playing it safe, taking your time, you eek out an insightful observation.
Low Die, Gnosis Progress.
Low Die, Oblivion Progress.

  • 13+: Step up Gnosis Die.

Rigorous Experiment
Your effort can be heard all throughout the research wing.
High Die Progress, Gnosis
High+Low Die Progress, Oblivion

  • 11+: Step down Oblivion.
  • 13+: Step down Oblivion.

Reorient
Step back, take a day off, calm yourself, imbibe something, you refresh and start anew.
Low Die Gnosis
Remove Low Die Progress, Oblivion.

  • 11+: Remove Mid Die.
  • 13+: Remove High Die.

Radical Theorizing
Disadvantage 1 for the next Research action.
Advantage 2 for the next Research actions for this Detail.
High Die Progress, Oblivion

  • 13+: Gain Advantage 3.

Ambitious Experiment
Vile, bizarre, or destructive methods are used to find out all you can.
Total Progress, Oblivion.

  • 18: Only Gain Low Die Progress, Oblivion. Gain Total Progress, Gnosis.

Conclude
If Gnosis is full, complete Detail.

  • 15+: High Die Progress, Gnosis on next Detail.
