VARIANT 1, PAIN AND PANIC

When this is used, ask players to divert their eyes from the sortie board. Trust them.

Move every unit on the board as if they had 4 uses of Skate.

Explain to players the following:

  1. Your HUD started to blur as a streak of light in the horizon sailed up, flashed, and now you're somewhere else and your HUD is rebooting.

  2. Players get 1 minute to act their turn. If that one minute expires, they act last in initiative. Players can ask for 2 minutes instead.

  3. GM asks every player what they prefer.

  4. After the last player is asked, the GM asks who wants to go first, reveals the board and starts the timer.

VARIANT 2, PANIC

Players get EMP'd, described moving in a haze, and are then are asked to roll 4d4. Player movements:

  1. Up
  2. Left
  3. Right
  4. Down.

After players have moved, resume Sortie as normal.

VARIANT 3, ALSO PANIC

Temporarily, Sortie ends, and a Scramble begins.

The GM rearranges the board as if every unit moved with 4 random uses of Skate.

The GM describes to the players their new locations, and what's around them.

Players perform 1 general action [Attack the thing North from me], resolve it, then Sortie resumes after every player has gone.
