accents are purely phonetic/phonemic changes whereas dialects can also include changes in word use, morphology, and syntax!
that’s interesting bc there definitely seems to be a fuzzy line there! at least with english it feels like we never describe something as a dialect, no matter how different it is
Standard American English and, like, British English or Australian English have grown pretty similar, with only minor vocabulary differences (lift, mum, garbo, etc). African-American Vernacular English is perhaps a more clear distinction, with different rules for conjugation ("we was", "it be", dropped copulas, etc).
Dialects: Idioms, Slang, Pidgin, Abbreviations, and anything included in accents
Accents: the way your mouth sounds happen, potentially in contrast to other people who speak the same language as you
The way I see it, accents are the way you pronounce things, your dialect is stuff like turns of phrase and specific word choice (soda vs pop kinda stuff)
