I don't know how this rates in comparison, but I can share that the motion control rigs at Laika (these are the giant robotic arms the cameras are mounted to so they can be moved frame-by-frame during the shoot) are all built on DOS software and the "moves" programmed into them need to be loaded via 3.25inch floppies.
There have been a non-zero number of times there were upsets about the availability of floppies and drives to read/write them.
Hah. That’s really cool too though. I love that the one guy who sells floppies does good business for things like that.
Was really surprised when I saw a Linus Tech Tips video on NIXSYS last year. I did some contract work in a shop that required a bunch of legacy hardware with CnC Machines and the like. Even though I am "young"(4 years ago when I was 27) I had a lot of experience on Win98 systems, so it was a cushy gig.
