one idea i’ve toyed with about putting on my wishlist is little bespoke computer programs that would presumably take me a ton of work to learn how to do vs friends with more experience. the main reason i haven’t done it is i have no idea if that’s the sort of thing ppl get all the time, like if you do art you hear ppl ask for commissions a lot

I think in part it's tricky because software usually requires ongoing maintenance, which is a difficult thing to ask for/gift

definitely! i would think of it like a car— a very nice thing to receive that if i wanted it to run smoothly i would either need to learn to maintain it myself or pay someone.

we should have car mechanics for computer programs tbh

No, we get asked to fix printers or wi-fi. Very few people seem to know what a computer program is or why they'd want to use one. :P

This is such a good idea. I don't know how much work they would take but there are a few things I do regularly that I suspect could be mostly or entirely automated without too much work.

A lot of things setting up project files, doing a few different types of image manipulation over and over, and taking a spreadsheet and running it though a one or two programs to turn it into a couple images.
