i would probably also strongly recommend that anyone using plex start figuring out an alternative now, whether that’s jellyfin or kodi/osmc, since all experience with the internet shows that these sort of options will inevitably stop being optional

i like my osmc box, but it’s really only good for local media. rn i use plex for sharing stuff, i would probably look into jellyfin as an alternative to that

so, in theory yes-- its just a frontend for your media, and it can connect to sources on your local network, so you just have to point it to that. you'd have to have osmc or kodi (they're basically the same thing) on every device you'd want to watch it on.
but i actually much prefer it to plex for that-- its got its own issues but its MUCH more customizable in comparison
