it’s really funny that humans have centuries of folk tales and stories about the dangers of entering contracts with beings like devils or djinns who interpret everything you ask for very literally. and then we invented computers

I have thought for about 18 years now that the stories of magical human-ish characters (many like humans, but smaller) who creatively misinterpret the language used in bounds/restrictions placed on them must have originated as stories told by parents.

In related news, my son turns 21 in January.
