ppl talk about ai like the worst case scenario is that all of these companies realize it doesn’t work the way it was promised and drop it, using all these resources to accomplish nothing, but i’m pretty sure the worst case scenario is that it works juuuuuust well enough that in five years it will be actually impossible to exist in mainstream society without it, and everyone tells you to stop complaining about it

like, taking a principled stand is easy rn, bc the technology is still on the fringe or you can avoid upgrading for a while, but what do you do when your pc finally dies, or the new fromsoft game is out but only works with the latest ai-enabled gpus, or your unemployment check is only valid if you submit an ai placement, or whatever it is. that’s the point where it actually starts requiring sacrifice
