apologies for continuing to harp on this, but i keep going back and reading more things about remote attestation as i come across them and:

one thing about all the doomsaying about how this could force you to upgrade devices periodically, is that we already have proof IN CURRENT USE with apps: i was effectively locked out of many things on mobile, including my bank, because my phone was too old to use the current app my bank wanted me to use, and their mobile website just directed me to the app

this wasn't just inconvenient: since i use a bank that operate primarily remotely, with few local branches, there was a while where i couldn't deposit checks because i couldn't access the app
