im reading a collection of old Gasoline Alley strips bc i find them really interesting-- they're from 1918, so they're early enough that 'being into cars' could still be a personality trait. and the thing is, hobbyists have always been the same forever, so its really interesting!

for example, i sent this strip to my friend @positronicwoman and she responded with 'average linux usergroup,' a read that is devastatingly accurate:

feeling so irritated about these books. not because they aren’t good or cool objects but they’re so BIG and BULKY and i’m pretty sure they’re out of print by now and YOU CANT BUY THEM DIGITALLY

daily newspaper comics are imo perfect for digital archives— they look great epaper, and there’s no real advantage to them being in a book since they’re already divorced from their original context as disposable newspaper strips. plus there’s myriad ways to package them to sell— complete sets, whole years, or even individually. but no one seems to be interested in it! so i’m stuck lugging these halfway across the country just to have access to them
