living in a pretty suburban area it’s weird figuring out the best way to just start the baby steps for riding motorcycles.

My parents have property but it’s a 40min drive and hot as shit, so I started just scouting around industrial areas and business parks on the edge of town. Feels like shit I’d do in middle school looking for places to skate in a town with no skate parks.

Anyway, found this totally empty parking lot at the very edge of a developing business park. Other side of the road is just a giant field. Yes, I see that they would prefer for me to not enter this Very Important and Private old parking lot, but thank god I have a 4 stroke so it’s pretty quiet and all I want to practice is starting from a stop, going around in 1st and coming back to a stop. Maaaaybe some second gear if I’m feeling confident.

Got there around 630, most people left from the business park. Wife and I were a little nervous about getting pulled up on, but we notice people on dirt bikes passing by as we unload. Think "well maybe they're just passing through". As I get my gear on they pass again... alright so maybe people just ride bikes out here??

Rode around the parking lot and applied some of the stuff I had been reading/learning about, got comfortable moving between 1st-3rd gear. Felt fuckin awesome. Then some dude on another dual sport pulls up into the parking lot (all the other people on bikes were passing on the road). Little nervous, but he's hella friendly and just starts chatting! Like just wanted to say hi, give me some tips and see what's up.

I chatted with him for awhile, and asked what the deal was and if they get busted and the I find out: Everyone just rides bikes there, and the owners are cool with it (as long as there's no bikes that are too loud). So now I have this little abandoned parking lot I can just go to a half mile from my house and keep practicing on. So fucking stoked.
